This former seat of the legislature of North Carolina housed all of the state's government until 1888 before the Supreme Court and State Library moved into a separate building and in 1963, the General Assembly moved into the State Legislative Building. But today, the governor and his immediate staff still occupy the first floor of the Capitol. Note that walk-in tours of the building are self-guided, but you can also schedule an informative guided tour, just make sure you reserve it no less than two weeks in advance of your visit.
