Hilton Payment FAQs

Paying for your stay

What forms of payment does Hilton accept?

For stays booked online and through Hilton Reservations and Customer Care, we accept major credit and debit cards. Accepted payment types can vary by location: To learn what payment types a specific hotel accepts, check the policies section of their website or contact them directly.

When will I be charged for my stay if I book online?

If you book a non-refundable or advance purchase rate, you will be charged immediately for the full amount of your stay once your card has been verified. If you book a flexible rate, you will be charged when you check out at the hotel.

I paid in advance for my stay. Why do I need a credit card to check in?

When you check in, the hotel may place a hold on your card for incidentals such as gratuities, food and drink, parking, and other charges.

Why is the pending charge on my card different from the price of my stay?

When you check in, the hotel may authorize your card for the anticipated amount to be owed, which includes estimated incidentals. When you check out, you’ll be charged the final price of your stay and the hold will be released within 72 hours. Depending on your card provider, the hold may take longer than 72 hours to release.

I received a payment request after I checked out. What is this?

When you check out, charges such as room service, minibar consumption, and other incidental fees may be settled in addition to your reservation payment. Your card provider may require additional verification for these charges.

Payment security

During booking, I saw a message about “verifying your card.” What does this mean?

To protect you from fraud online, we are sometimes required to take specific steps to make sure you are the authorized user of your credit card. The “verifying your card” message will display while this process is taking place.

How do you verify that I am the authorized user of my credit card?

Hilton often is able to verify your credit card without requiring any additional information from you. Sometimes, however, your credit card provider may require more information to confirm the card you're using is yours. When that happens, you'll be taken to your credit card provider’s website to verify your identity.

What additional information will I be asked to provide?

The information requested may vary, depending on your credit card provider. Some examples include:

Your card’s security code

Your password or PIN

A one-time password sent by your provider

Your phone’s face or fingerprint recognition

Your credit card provider does not share the information they collect to verify your identity with Hilton.

Will my card be charged during the verification process?

The verification process only checks whether you’re the authorized user of your card. When you are charged depends on the rate you book.

If you book a non-refundable or advance purchase rate, you will be charged immediately for the full amount of your stay once your card has been verified. If you book a flexible rate, you will be charged when you check out at the hotel. A pending charge may appear temporarily on your credit card, but you will not be charged until payment is authorized by the hotel.

Can I save my payment information so I don’t have to enter it every time?

If you’re a Hilton Honors Member, you can save up to 10 cards in your account. We use 128-bit SSL encryption to keep your information secure.
