Sixty Years of Historyat Washington Hilton

Conceived by hotel visionary and founder Conrad Hilton, our iconic venue has hosted U.S. presidents and global dignitaries since its grand opening in 1965. Over the decades, these prestigious gatherings have shaped the nation’s social and political landscape.

World Class Architecture

Renowned brutalist architect William B. Tabler, crafted the unique wing-shaped building.

Described as “a seagull in flight,” his design ensured each guest room boasted a panoramic view with maximum natural light.

The Home of Legacy Events

From our inception, we’ve welcomed foreign dignitaries, heads of state, and influential business and community leaders.

Over the decades, we’ve hosted legacy events such as the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, the First Lady’s Luncheon, and the National Prayer Breakfast, cementing our role as a cornerstone of Washington, D.C.’s historic and cultural landscape.

The President's Walk

In 1976, we unveiled our President’s Walk, which leads directly to the backstage entrance of the International Ballroom.

The walkway showcases 100 pictures from the Library of Congress, honoring all the presidents of the United States, first ladies, and White House hostesses.

Sympathetic Renovations

In 2017, we transformed our lobby level. Inspired by the original 1960s design, bold geometric shapes mix with warm wood and low ergonomic furniture.
