Kamakakonu Beach is known for being a family-friendly environment because its soft sand and calm waters make it easy for any swimmer to explore while snorkeling. One of the most popular beaches on the island is Hapuna Beach State Park. While this beach can be crowded, it’s protected by a reef that creates a large area of calm water that’s great for underwater exploration. Get a beach experience unlike any other at Papakolea Beach. One of four green-sand beaches in the world, Papakolea Beach requires a two-mile hike through lava fields to reach, but it’s a sight to behold when you get there. If you make your trip in the early part of the year, you can even watch whales migrate while standing on the shoreline of most beaches.

Take time to enjoy all that the island of Hawaii has to offer by visiting local art galleries, museums, and shops. The Genesis Gallery and Lava Light Gallery are among the most well-known galleries. Spend the day shopping for souvenirs at the Kings’ Shops, where you can browse everything from local vendors to high-end clothing and jewelry stores.
