This four-story, 42-room Queen Anne Victorian mansion was built in 1891, and features beautiful antiques, and lush gardens, and offers interesting tours to take. Originally built in 1891 as a family residence for Martin Pattison, the former three-time mayor of Superior and lumber baron, the mansion cost more than $150,000, the equivalent of $3 million today. Pattison and his family lived at Fairlawn until 1918 when it transitioned into a Children's Home from 1920 to 1962. Now a fun tourist attraction, you’ll have a blast with the little ones making arts and crafts, enjoying good coffee and other goodies offered on-site, and if traveling during April, you may even catch the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Stay at Superior Hotels to Discover Rib Mountain State Park
Get your steps in while also seeing one of Superior’s best landmarks, the Wisconsin Point Light. This iconic lighthouse is located in Superior on Wisconsin Point, within a 10-mile-long sandbar stretching between the ports of Duluth and Superior, making the Duluth-Superior Harbor one of the safest harbors in the world. It is also the longest freshwater sand bar in the world. Split into two distinct sides by an opening near its center, where the lighthouse is located. The Minnesota side of the opening is known as "Minnesota Point" and the Wisconsin side is known as "Wisconsin Point." At a striking 70 feet tall, this lighthouse is a great orienting feature of the city and a wonderful place to see the ice melting on the shore and along the rocks while visiting the area from Superior hotels.
