Our Signature Activities

Inspired by Roku Kyoto’s roots in the historic Honami artisan enclave, guests embark on a small, intimate workshop with a local craftsperson (karakami papermaker, bamboo artist, lacquerware artisan, or ceramicist.)

The experience begins with a storytelling introduction at the Tea House, before guests walk to the artisan studio or nearby dedicated workshop space. They learn the philosophy behind Japanese craftsmanship, participate in a simple making process. Linking their stay to the region’s cultural DNA, a children’s edition can be created with simple craft activities, making this inclusive for families. For families traveling with children, a special activity kit is available to help young explorers discover the resort, complete fun missions, and learn about the area’s history and local attractions. Children receive a mini gift at the end of the experience.

Traditional Weaving Experience

Learn the craft of textile making from Mr. Amane Tatsumura, the fourth generation owner of KOHO Nishikiori Traditional Textile Studio. Mr. Tatsumura will take guests on a special tour of the studio gallery, where beautiful brocade weaving and rare restorations of ancient textiles are on display. Guests will then weave their own textile using beautifully dyed silk threads with colors that are inspired by our resort.
