As a seasoned traveler and the Director of Experiences and Adventures at Hilton, Kassi Nopratvarakorn has visited AutoCamp three times. She was born in Tennessee, raised in Texas, and has lived in London and Los Angeles. She’s a collector of hotel keycards and currently based in Washington, D.C., with her husband.

My husband and I recently celebrated the one-year mark of living in Washington, D.C., and with the anniversary came a lot of accomplishments: going to all the museums (check); finally seeing cherry blossoms in the spring (check); learning how to pick crabs (check); and experiencing extreme humidity (double check). With our to-do list in good standing, it was now time to enjoy some downtime.

One of the things I love about being on this side of the country is the proximity to so many other states. Before moving here, I realized I’d only been to a handful of places on the East Coast, and we were excited to finally add to that count. With so many options just a quick flight away from Washington, a recommendation that came up again and again was Cape Cod.

As summer was coming to an end, our trip to Cape Cod was the perfect way to unwind and hit reset before the end of the year. Here are the top three ways I found some hard-earned peace and tranquility at AutoCamp Cape Cod.

Change your scenery

What better way to unwind than to slow down and enjoy new surroundings? A change in scenery (and pace) was just what we needed. Admittedly, I’ve never been much of an outdoorsy person, but the idea of being “inside adjacent” (and creating some fun photos in the process) was really appealing. We stayed at AutoCamp Cape Cod and it was one of the most unique stays I’ve ever experienced. We spent our days exploring nearby Martha’s Vineyard, finding every single lighthouse we could drive up to, and getting the perfect selfie in front of The Flag House in Provincetown. It was busy but somehow still relaxing.

Take time for the things that make you happy

I love to cook and with how busy this last year has been, I haven’t always had the time to do it. Food is our favorite way to experience other cultures and traditions when we travel, so we enjoy finding the best local spots and eating out. In Cape Cod, I felt like I got to combine the best of both worlds. I recommend going out for some local meals but saving at least one night to grill right outside your room. At AutoCamp Cape Cod, our Airstream was equipped with everything we needed to cook, including a cast iron skillet, cups, knives, cutting boards, plates, and even salt and pepper. The seafood coming out of New England has been one of my favorite things about living on the East Coast, and the meal we prepared at AutoCamp included oysters, lobster tails, crab cakes, and a few asparagus (because it seemed necessary). Check out the Cataumet Fish seafood market in North Falmouth (they even have their own oyster farm) and get everything else you need at the West Falmouth Market (and maybe a BEC to tie you over until your exceptional feast).

Connect with friends

Our Cape Cod trip was planned with our friends from New York, Scott, Alex, and their sweet dog, Farrah. It was a great halfway point between us since none of us had ever been to the Cape before. We wanted to make the most of our time and we absolutely did see as much as possible. At the end of the night, after a full day that probably would ordinarily make us want to go to bed early, I still couldn’t wait for the sun to go down so we could light a fire and just hang out. There’s something therapeutic, peaceful, and calming about swapping stories over an open firepit under the stars. As I’ve gotten older, it can be hard to catch up with people, save a quick text here or there; we’re all busy, we’re all distracted. I was so thankful to share this moment with my husband and our friends, staying up all night talking, laughing, and making plans to ensure we do this again soon. (Except when you burn your marshmallow for your s’more, and suddenly everyone’s a critic.)
