Formerly an assistant editor at Travel + Leisure, Los Angeles-based Tanvi Chheda has been freelancing for 15 years now. She writes mostly about lifestyle and travel, which often spills into arts & culture, food, design, and more. With two young children, family travel is also a passion of hers. Given her South Asian heritage, she writes about India quite frequently as well (she was born in India and speaks three Indian languages). When not traveling or writing, she enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time outdoors. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, AFAR, Virtuoso Life, Four Seasons magazine, Qantas, Inspirato, Invited, Pasadena magazine, OLTRE, and Ciao Bambino, among others.

Whether it’s toes in the sand days, teeing off at the golf course, or hiking through the Catskill Mountains, summer is best spent outside. Don’t let summer slip away — start planning your next epic outdoor adventure.
Key Largo, Florida
The northernmost of the Florida Keys, Key Largo’s crystal-clear waters are home to incredible coral reefs and marine life, making it a favorite destination for snorkeling and scuba diving. (The Molasses Reef is one of the most visited dive sites in the world.) Even if you’re not a deep-sea diver, there’s still plenty of outdoor fun to be had at Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton. The eco-minded resort sits on 13 acres (5 hectares) with contemporary waterfront digs. From kayaking and parasailing to painting and tequila tasting, there’s something for everyone. After a full day of exploration, sample hyperlocal American fare (read: boat-to-table) at the resort’s Calusa restaurant.
Orlando, Florida
Orlando is synonymous with thrilling theme parks, but there’s much more to see and do in the region. Choose from dozens of museums, the Kennedy Space Center, and lush state parks, or simply settle in and unwind in style at Waldorf Astoria Orlando, an oasis in its own right. Set within the 482-acre (195-hectare) Bonnet Creek nature preserve, the resort features outdoor pools with private cabanas; 12 upscale restaurants and bars, including beloved Bull & Bear steakhouse; soothing treatments at Waldorf Astoria Spa; and a Rees Jones-designed 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course to practice your swing.
Catskills, New York
A favorite destination for city dwellers wanting to commune with nature, the Catskills are renowned for their hiking and biking trails, stunning waterfalls, and sweeping vistas. Cool off with a day of swimming and kayaking at nearby Saugerties Village Beach or make the trek to Kaaterskill Falls, the highest cascading waterfall in New York State. The perfect base from which to explore it all? AutoCamp Catskills’ deluxe Airstream Suites, equipped with full bathrooms, mini-kitchenettes, and private outdoor seating with a firepit, as well as heating and air conditioning. Known for its scenic locations near national parks, AutoCamp also offers cozy, minimalist cabins at its Catskills location, a quick 10-minute drive from the historic towns of Woodstock and Saugerties.
